At Children’s Magnet and Children’s Manor Montessori School (CMMS), we believe that education extends well beyond the basics of math, language, and practical life skills. Our enrichment programs provide children with the opportunity to explore creativity, movement, another language, and even technology in meaningful ways. These experiences go hand in hand with Montessori principles, supporting the growth of the whole child and helping students discover the joy of learning in every form.
Our Enrichment Programs
A unique aspect of our curriculum is the incorporation of Enrichment Programs into the schedule as part of your child’s education. These include:
Why Enrichment Matters
Enrichment is an important part of a Montessori education because it nurtures the whole child. When children are introduced to activities beyond the core curriculum, they learn to develop a balance between academic, physical, social, and emotional growth. These opportunities also encourage curiosity and creativity, sparking new ideas and interests, and stretching students to learn in new ways. At the same time, young students build confidence and independence as they take pride in mastering new skills.
Music and Movement
Music is a universal language, and at CMMS it plays a big role in our curriculum, with students having a structured music class once a week. Through singing, rhythm, and movement, children strengthen memory, coordination, and listening skills. Music also encourages self-expression and gives children a creative outlet to share their feelings and ideas. Whether they’re clapping to a beat or learning a new song, students gain an appreciation for the arts, while also building important cognitive skills.
Our music program is integrated with our Montessori Links Curriculum, so for example when students are studying a specific continent, they will explore the music and instruments native to those countries. Students at CMMS also perform both a Winter and Spring Concert, where they showcase what they have learned for their families. You can read more specifically about our music enrichment program here.
Yoga & Mindfulness
In today’s busy world, even the youngest children can benefit from moments of calm and focus. The practice of yoga introduces mindfulness, balance, and body awareness in a fun and age-appropriate way: once a week, students explore simple breathing exercises and stretches that help them regulate emotions, improve concentration, and build strength. These practices are especially valuable for supporting emotional well-being and assisting children in developing healthy habits for life.
Spanish
Introducing a second language early on opens the door to new cultures and ways of thinking. At CMMS, Spanish lessons expose children to vocabulary, conversation, and traditions from Spanish-speaking communities around the world. Learning another language not only strengthens memory and problem-solving skills, but also fosters an appreciation for diversity.
By engaging with Spanish in their early years, children gain confidence in communication and develop a curiosity about the wider world. You can read more about why we start a second language in preschool here.
Artistic Expression
Art sparks our imagination, allowing children to bring their ideas to life. Through painting, drawing, and hands-on projects using a variety of mediums, students at CMMS explore their creativity and ability to express themselves. These activities refine fine motor skills while also encouraging problem-solving and innovation. Art provides students with a safe space to experiment and take pride in creating something uniquely their own.
Introduction to Technology
In today’s digital age, technology is an increasingly important tool for learning. Our technology enrichment program introduces our older students to technology in a purposeful and age-appropriate way. Students develop digital literacy skills that prepare them for future learning, while also using technology as a tool for creativity and exploration. Whether researching a topic of interest or practicing new skills like typing, children learn how to engage with technology responsibly and effectively.
Reading Readiness and Library Media
A love of reading begins early, and at CMMS we nurture that passion through Reading Readiness and Library Media programs. Children are introduced as a class and in smaller groups to stories that spark imagination and build comprehension, while also developing early literacy skills such as phonics and vocabulary. Time spent in the library gives students the opportunity to explore different genres, discover new favorite authors, and see books as a gateway to lifelong learning.
The Collective Benefits of Enrichment
Together, these enrichment programs help children grow into well-rounded learners. They gain skills that support academic success while also developing problem solving and cultural awareness. Enrichment prepares students for a diverse world by exposing them to new ideas and perspectives, and stretches them to explore new ways of learning. Most importantly, a varied Enrichment Program makes learning joyful and engaging, helping children see that education is not just about what happens in the classroom, but is also for discovering the wider world and their place within it.
Discover the CMMS Difference
At CMMS, enrichment is not an “extra” or afterthought. It is instead an essential part of how we nurture curious, confident learners who are ready to thrive both inside and outside of school. Our integrated Enrichment Programming is included in our monthly tuition, and families also have the opportunity to further expand in areas their child shows particular interest (such as 1:1 piano lessons). We invite you to see how our enrichment programs make learning meaningful and fun. Schedule a personal tour of CMMS to explore our classroom, meet the director and teachers, and experience firsthand how Montessori education goes beyond the classroom.
