ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Maryland Academy of Montessori Education (MDAME) Launches Inaugural Cohort of Montessori Teacher Certification and Training

Maryland Academy of Montessori Education (MDAME) is excited to announce the launch of its inaugural cohort of Montessori Teacher candidates. The MDAME Teacher Education Program builds on the 30+ year legacy of educational excellence at Children’s Manor and Children’s Magnet Montessori Schools (CMMS), providing a comprehensive pathway for Montessori teacher certification and training. Launched on June 1, 2025, this collaboration supports CMMS’s mission to cultivate and empower dedicated Montessori educators, not only within its own schools but also throughout the wider Montessori community. Through MDAME, the impact of CMMS continues to grow, shaping not just students, but the next generation of transformative educators.

Through this new Montessori teacher training program, both internal CMMS staff members and external candidates will embark on a rigorous path to become certified Early Childhood Montessori teachers. Since early June, participants have attended virtual evening classes led by experienced CMMS Instructors covering essential Montessori philosophy, curriculum design, lesson presentations, family partnership, and material use.

In June, candidates deepened their learning through an intensive, in-person training week. During this immersive experience, they visited multiple CMMS campuses for full-day, hands-on practice with Montessori materials, guided by the CMMS Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).

The program continues over the summer with a blend of synchronous and asynchronous online learning, preparing candidates to integrate Montessori methods confidently and effectively. In August, candidates will attend another in-person training week before starting their year-long practicum experience, working and studying under the guidance of experienced Montessori lead teachers during the 2025–2026 academic year.

By summer 2026, MDAME will proudly celebrate newly certified Montessori teachers who have grown through this innovative, community-based training model. MDAME is affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS), accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education Commission (MACTE), and approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

The launch of the inaugural cohort of MDAME highlights CMMS’s ongoing commitment to Montessori excellence and to nurturing passionate, well-prepared educators dedicated to inspiring and guiding children into the future. We hope you will celebrate this achievement with us, and if you are interested in earning your Montessori teacher certification or learning more about Montessori training in Maryland, please visit mdame.org for details. The next cohort begins in January 2026!
